Summer Camp USA

What is summer camp?

A North American tradition, each summer children and teens from all over the USA and Canada attend sleepover camps for 1-8 weeks between Jun-Aug. A safe place for them to learn new activities, grow their skills and experience living away from home in the great outdoors – camps are seen as integral to a child’s social, cultural and educational development. Each year, Camp Directors hire 18-30 year olds from all over the world to work as Camp Counsellors, Activity Specialists and Disability Counsellors.

Why work at summer camp?

Summer camp is the opportunity for international students and travellers to experience living and working overseas in incredible wilderness locations. Working as a Camp Counsellor or Activity Specialist, you’ll help to shape the lives of your campers – while also developing your own leadership and problem-solving skills. Great for your resume, bank account and social life – you’ll earn a camp salary, have meals and accommodation included, and make life-long friends from all over the world.

Skills: You'll need to be patient and committed. And more importantly, leave your perceptions of what’s possible at the front gate. One of the most challenging but rewarding roles at camp, you’ll learn as much about yourself as you teach to others.

Skills: As a friend, older sibling and herder of small people… you’ll need to have bags of energy, imagination and creativity. You’ll do a bit of everything – helping to run activities and generally make sure your campers feel safe, happy and supported.

Superpower: Leadership

Wanted: Activity Specialists

Skills: Whether you’re coaching track or teaching art, this is about bringing your passion to life for your campers. You’ll need to be motivated and enthusiastic, enhancing their skills and growing their confidence – all while practicing the activity you love.
